SEITAN LIMANIA FJORD – SEITAN LIMANIA BEACH
Located on the northeast side of the Akrotiri Peninsula, one of the most special beaches in Western Crete, the Seitan Limania beach.
Seitan Limania is actually a fjord.
A fjord is a sea bay, which extends deep into the mainland. It is surrounded by high plum walls and mountains. The fjords were created by a glacier. The cavity created by the glacier was flooded by the sea.
Typical characteristics of fjords:
– narrow bays; their bottoms are deep below sea level (so larger ships can approach it)
– they are surrounded by steep rock walls, which continue below sea; their middle and upper parts are deeper, like closer parts to the sea;
– the fjord is connected to the open sea
On the way to Seitan Limania Fjord and beach, a lovely chapel: Ekklisia Agios Spiridon
There are also beautiful views of the mountains and the sea!
This coast is different from any other beach, because it is surrounded by high rock walls.
The beach is unique, because we can not only see the magnificent fjord and the beach. We can pleasantly swim in the fjord. The temperature of the sea water reaches 27 degrees Celsius in summer. There are very few places in the world, where you can enjoy a pleasant swim in a fjord.
